I started in the insurance business as a life agent for Mutual of New York in 1973. The business intrigued me, as I wanted to be in control of my future and work for myself. You only needed a desire and a willingness to work hard – no inventory, buildings, or even employees were required to get started. While the road was rough, as it is for many business owners – I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. In 1978, I added financial planning to my product offerings. I worked as a financial planning consultant to independent agents when I was with The Hartford from 1978-82. I then went to work for an independent agency in 1982, where I became a principal in 1992. I have been involved in all lines of coverage, including various business insurance starting in 1982. I have focused on commercial insurance and employee benefits for business owners since 1984. I believe strongly in continuing education, and not just because our profession like many- requires it, but rather as a necessity in order to provide the level of quality advice and counsel that my clients want and deserve.
Over my career I have complete the requirements for a significant number of professional designations, which include:
Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) in 1984
Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) in 1988
Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) in 1989
Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC) in 2000
Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) in 2000
Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) in 2004
While you can find a fairly large number of insurance professionals that have earned one or two of these widely-recognized professional designations, you will find very few who can match my credentials and broad experience. I believe most business owners want a professional that they can have confidence and trust in advising them on their insurance needs. You need and want a professional in your corner – a virtual partner who wants your business to continue to prosper for years to come.
While I may not have the vast and extensive experience that my father, Ed, has in the insurance industry, I do bring a unique perspective and a broad skill-set to our business model. One experience and mantra that we do both share is our passion for working hand-in-hand with our clients and seeing their businesses blossom and grow. Prior to joining the insurance industry in 2009, I had spent the last six years of my career as a Commercial Lender for a large regional bank in the Southeast. Most of my time and efforts went into collaborating with businesses of all shapes and sizes (ranging from $1 million-$400 million in revenues) to help them either create or maintain a viable operation in their given industries. That partnership is something I learned to really appreciate and enjoy over the years, and now I have added insurance as another possible solution to that ever-changing puzzle. I look forward to an opportunity to help you face the challenges that lie ahead for your business and hope to build a partnership that is mutually rewarding for both parties for years to come.
